In Unit 5, I have created a 3-minute presentation on the flipped classrooms. I have discovered interesting facts about flipped classroom because I personally used this in my Geometry class in this school year. The thing I have learned about the flipped classroom from the research is why it was a great mode for remote math teaching because the reason that I started using it was not absolutely clear for me. From my observation, one of the advantages is student interaction–all on class time could be used to ask questions while they are solving the problems. According to Song (2017), she also talked about how students were expected to apply the knowledge acquired from video and engage in more difficult problem-solving tasks in class. I also found this in my class, for some students need more time understanding the video, they could follow their pace, and pause the video when they need, so they will have a more solid understanding, and then they can do a more difficult task, and build confident in math.

During the Zoom Meeting, Ron also talked about it is easier now to make flipped classroom successful nowadays, because all technology resources are so ready to make this happen. I have not thought about this. Yes, school wifi only needs 2 minutes for me to upload a 20-minute 200MB video, and I can utilize all smart devices (iPad with pencil, video editor on multiscreen pc, stream deck, and more) to make a more interactive video. On the student’s side, school-issued devices can help them watch the video online without any problems. Going back to 2008, I still remember how loud the fan was when I was exporting the video, and how long it took to upload unto my drive . In conclusion, the success of a teaching idea is not only due to the continuous improvement of teachers, but also the growth of the external environment.
